Antigua and Barbuda has authorized members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) as Recognized Organizations for commerical vessels over 500GT.

All Classification Societies are authorized also as Recognized Security Organizations (RSOs), and as ROs for the application of the Maritime Labour Convention as well as for the application of the other Conventions.

All ROs have a signed Service Level Agreement with the Antigua and Barbuda Maritime Administration which details delegation of statutory services, with updates covered by Directives, Circulars, and Information Notices, in respect of the International Ship Register.

The agreements are in accordance with the IMO requirements through the Code for Recognized Organizations (RO Code) by resolutions MEPC.237(65) and MSC.349(92), which entered into force on 1 January 2015 under MARPOL annexes I and II, SOLAS 1974 and the 1988, Load Line Protocol. The Code, parts 1 and 2 of which are mandatory, while part 3 is recommendatory, provides a consolidated instrument containing criteria against which ROs are assessed and authorized/recognized, and gives guidance for subsequent monitoring of ROs by Antigua and Barbuda.
